Obituary for Sharon A. Abrey

Sharon A. (Wallace) Abrey, 61, of Coldwater, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
The funeral service will be Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Terry Tomlinson officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home.
Sharon was born December 21, 1955 in Lansing, MI to Edward and Phyllis (Watling) Stewart. She married Mike Wallace in 1975, he preceded her in death in 1979. She then married Daryl Abrey in 1988.
Sharon graduated from Coldwater High School in 1974, receiving her BA in 1982 and her Masters in Psychology/Sociology in 1984, both from Western MI University. She spent most of her career in the health care industry, writing grants and traveling extensively. Sharon was instrumental in the development of the Branch Co. Literacy Council as well as Hospice. She attended the United Methodist Church in Coldwater and later Girard United Methodist Church. Sharon was a member of the Coldwater Eagles and Kiwanis Club, which she was proud to have been the first female member. She was actively involved with the Humane Society, the Hospice Duck Race and the Shelter House. Sharon had a great love of music. Being musically talented she could play a variety of instruments. She loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, going shopping and animals. Most of all Sharon treasured the time she spent with her family.
Sharon is survived by her daughter Karri Gruner of Coldwater, her sister Kathy Braind of Coldwater, her grandchildren Rachel and Chloe Cross both in Florida, her nieces and nephew Lisa Braind of Kalamazoo, Kristi Braind of Arizona and Lloyd (L.B.) Magruder of Florida. She was preceded in death by her daughter Brandi Cross in 2007, her father, her mother, stepfather Jon Bodolay and sister Carolyn Stewart-Morris.
